Furman vs. USC football


This football was used in a game in which Furman defeated the University of South Carolina, 12-0.  Throughout the 1920s and early 1930s, Furman’s football team, the Purple Hurricane, dominated collegiate sports in South Carolina.  It won a number of state championship titles and regularly defeated USC and Clemson in games.  Other teams frequently defeated by Furman include Duke, North Carolina State, and the Universities of Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and Virginia.
